Dear Moss Society Members,
Welcome! This is the January 2018 edition of the monthly Moss Society newsletter.
Pat Moss News
What an opportunity for the creation of beautiful artwork these cold, blustery days have provided! Pat has been extraordinarily busy since she doesn’t have the distraction of outdoor gardening. With Pi the cat keeping her company, (who drinks her paintbrush water) she has many new paintings and prints to share.
Society Member News
The Sentinel, our annual print edition of the Society newsletter, is scheduled for release in the Spring. Look for it in late March or early April. Anyone wishing to place a personal ad in the Sentinel will need to contact the Society office no later than February 15th. For advertising guidelines, please send an email to angieclawson@pbuckleymoss.com.
We are looking forward to a new way for all of us to enjoy our love of Pat’s art and help Pat’s Foundation for Children’s Education at the same time. Moss Galleries is introducing a new program called, “Special Seasonal Society Print.”
Here’s how Patty Moss explained it.“As an added benefit for active Society members in 2018, we are excited to offer you a new small print every season (four total for 2018) that you can purchase with no shipping charge, and 5% of the proceeds will go to the Moss Foundation. These giclées will be available to all collectors, but only active Society members will benefit with free shipping and the Foundation donation. You must provide your Society member number when ordering this print.” Each print will have a designated date to purchase by to be able to apply the “no shipping” charge and donation.

Another beautiful quilt has been selected by the Foundation Board for the 2018 Quilt Raffle. This year’s quilt was created and donated by Lana Kleimon of Marietta, GA. This large quilt features an original Moss painted centerpiece of an Amish buggy. The tickets are the same price as last year, 1 for $3, or 2 for $5. Last year’s quilt raffle raised $1,853 for the PBM Endowed Scholarship. Let’s see if we can double the amount for this year. Tickets will be available the first part of February from the Foundation office. Be sure to check with your local Moss dealer as many of them will have tickets too. The quilt will be touring with Pat when she is having a gallery show which will provide a variety of opportunities for you to view this work of art.
The annual Foundation Dinner at Pat’s home, the Barn, in Waynesboro, is officially scheduled for July 7, 2018. The tickets will be the same price as last year, $32 each. More details to follow as the program and dinner are put together. Reservations are being taken now by contacting the Foundation office. You don’t want to miss this patio gala with Pat and all of your Moss friends!
Chapter News
We are excited to share reports from various Moss Chapters. But first, it’s a sad report for Moss Pelicans of St. Petersburg, Florida. Pelican Chapter President Bonnie Binnig and the remaining members held a going away banquet to celebrate their time together. Bonnie will be continuing the journey with us serving as a direction on the Foundation board. Thank you to the Moss Pelicans for your community service over the years.
President Sally Gobrecht of the Lake Marburg Chapter of the Moss Society sent in their chapter newsletter called, Patches of Moss. The newsletter covered many topics ranging from chapter business to scheduled events to service projects. One item stood out. It was a heartbreaking story shared about a local boy, age 8, who has fallen on difficult times. The Lake Marburg Chapter has decided to unofficially adopt this young man and share the generosity and goodness of life with him. This exemplifies what being a Moss Society member is. Thank you for being compassionate in your community.
Moss in the Forest Chapter in the Lynchburg area of Virginia stays busy with numerous service projects. In 2017 this lively chapter of 12 members provided assistance for the homeless in conjunction with “Warm Streets” project. Throughout 2017 they collected and distributed items to the YMCA Domestic Violence Center. They even raffled a Moss Print and plate so that they could provide funding to be applied towards the purchase of a therapeutic bicycle for Wheels on the James. Thank you Moss in the Forest for recognizing and providing assistance in your community in so many different ways.
Got chapter news? Send it to society@pbuckleymoss.com. We love hearing from you.
“In everyone's life, at some time, our inner fire goes out. It is then burst into flame by an encounter with another human being. We should all be thankful for those people who rekindle the inner spirit.”
