Dear Moss Society Members,

Welcome! This is the February 2018 edition of the monthly Society newsletter.

Pat Moss News

On January 31st Pat Moss was recognized by the Virginia Commission for the Arts for her continuing inspiration of the arts and for having a significant impact on the communities of Virginia. The 50th anniversary program honored her along with 49 other people and groups whose achievements over the last 50 years have led the effort to remind us why the arts are so important, if not essential to our lives.

Society Member News

Exciting news! A Moss Society trip is being planned for this year. It will be a bus trip that encompasses Waynesboro, Virginia and nearby counties. The focus of this journey will be to visit places that Pat has painted and to understand their significance and history. Pat’s career took off when she was a Waynesboro resident so it is fitting to begin there. The projected date for this special event is mid to late September. More information will be in the March edition of this newsletter.

Moss Foundation News

The Moss Foundation is pleased to announce that The Little Tangents will be providing music on the patio for the Foundation Dinner on July 7th. This delightful duo from Richmond plays a variety of fun acoustic music that spans a number of decades. Band member Corey Walthall is a Moss Society member as well as an active member of Moss on the James. Here is a link to their website:

The Foundation gratefully acknowledges Moss in the Country for their generous cash donation.

Chapter News

Even though it is early in the year and the weather has been less than optimal, Moss Society Chapters have been busy in their communities. Recently Richmond’s Moss on the James chapter provided assistance to CJ’s Thumbs Up Foundation. CJ’s was founded in 2010 with the mission to help families that have a child dealing with a chronic or life threatening condition. They do this through providing meals and financial assistance. On February 10th, CJ’s held their 7th Annual CJ’s Thumbs Up Ball. This family-oriented event included lots of music and dancing, delicious food, a raffle and a silent auction. Moss on the James provided food and assistance with the event. Thank you MOTJ.
