The Society collects no personal information from individuals who merely browse the web site and view the various pages of information contained herein. Personal information is collected only when you choose to provide it in the following ways:
- If you choose to register for a membership or other items or services from the Society, you will need to give us personal information and authorization to obtain information from various credit services. For example, you may need to provide your name, mailing address, email address, credit card number, home phone number and Society membership number. Moreover, each employee of the Society is required to sign a confidentiality agreement, which forbids the use of personal information for any purpose not authorized by the Society.
When you send confidential personal credit card information to us on the web site, we employ secure server software to encrypt the information before it is sent to us. The information is scrambled en-route and decoded once it reaches us. While no system of security is perfect, we believe we have taken reasonable precautions to protect the confidentiality of your credit card information.
- If you choose to participate in our email distribution groups or newsletters, we will retain your email address as a part of the email database. However, in the distribution of material by means of our email newsletter, we take steps to ensure that the email addresses of subscribers are not made generally available to the public.
- If you choose to correspond with us through email, we may retain the content of your email messages together with your email address and other identifying information and our responses in Society files. We will provide the same protections for these electronic communications that we employ in the maintenance of information received by mail or telephone or other personal communications with the Society.
